MR16 is actually a designation of a bulb shape. It implies a 2" diameter 'metallic reflective' enclosure, often used with a halogen filament. The socket base, is normally a bi-pin such as GU5.3. This section includes both the bi-pin base as well as the standard E27 based products that have a 2" or similar diameter.
